Fiji and Japan collaboration to promote business development opportunities

The Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Raijeli Taga received an introductory courtesy call from the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Fiji, H.E Zhou Jian, at the Fiji Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters in Suva yesterday.
In her remarks, Dr. Taga acknowledged the ongoing cooperation between the two nations-guided by shared goal and common interests towards a comprehensive strategic partnership based on mutual trust and respect.
Dr. Taga highlighted that the two nations will commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the diplomatic relations this year and this occasion signifies the longstanding relations and cooperation between the two nations.
She said that the Ministry continues to work collaboratively with the Chinese Embassy and Fiji’s Embassy in Beijing, China to further build on the existing partnership.
In his remarks, Ambassador Zhou Jian congratulated Dr. Taga on her new role. He spoke highly of the comprehensive strategic partnership between our two countries which have stood together through thick and thin.
Noting that this year marks the 50th anniversary of China-Fiji diplomatic relations and the 170th anniversary of Chinese arrival in Fiji, Ambassador Jian expressed readiness to build on the momentum and take our bilateral relations to new heights, by promoting cooperation across the board with a focus on implementing the outcomes of Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka’s visit to China this year.
In particular, he highlighted progress in flagship projects such as the Vanua Levu Road Upgrading project, the proposed launch of direct flight between Chinese mainland and Fiji, and poverty reduction cooperation.
He reaffirmed his commitment to further promoting practical cooperation between Fiji and China, to bring more benefits to the peoples of the two countries.
