Fijian Government Welcomes the New Deputy Head of United Nations ESCAP Pacific

Prime Minister Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama received a courtesy call from the new Non-Resident Ambassador of Nigeria to Fiji, Anderson Nkemakonam Madubike, at the Office of the Prime Minister, this morning.
Prime Minister Bainimarama congratulated Ambassador Madubike on his diplomatic posting and reaffirmed the Fijian Government’s commitment to elevating the bilateral relations between the two nations.
The Prime Minister said working in solidarity is at the heart of multilateralism, as it unfolds opportunities for collective action and solutions on complex challenges concerning climate change, COVID-19 pandemic and the recent Russia-Ukraine crisis, which has further exacerbated the socio-economic impacts on the Small Island Developing States.
Perspectives were also shared at the meeting on potential collaboration opportunities in various sectors of the economies including agriculture, energy, and trade and investment, to name a few.
The shared commitment among the two nations to advocate for more ambitious global climate actions through their membership at the UN, Commonwealth at the Organisation of African Caribbean and Pacific (OACPS), was also acknowledged.
Prime Minister Bainimarama extended the Fijian Government’s best wishes to Ambassador Madubike as he assumes his new role, with the hope that the relations of the two nations would enhance in mutual interests.
In response, Ambassador Madubike thanked Prime Minister Bainimarama for the opportunity to meet and discuss the way forward on progressing common aspirations.
“Nigeria looks forward to working with Fiji for the advancement of bilateral relations between the two nations. The Nigerian High Commission based in Canberra aims to partner with other countries and entities in making the world a better place for all.
“During my tenure, I hope to explore various areas of collaboration that will be mutually beneficial to our two countries, focusing on Education, Agriculture Tourism and Trade.”
He said climate change and post-COVID-19 pandemic normalcy are also key areas of cooperation that Nigeria would pursue with its partners.
“It is only by working in solidarity that we can overcome the common challenges we face as a global community,” Ambassador Madubike said.
The Ambassador is grateful to Fiji for the kind hospitality accorded to him and the accompanying officials from the Nigeria High Commission based in Canberra, Australia, during their official visit to Fiji this week.
