In a very powerful display of diplomacy and strong regional friendship, Prime Minister Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka this morning was accorded the highest ceremonial Guard of Honour upon arrival at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Prime Minister Rabuka was warmly received and welcomed by His Excellency the President of Indonesia, General (retired) Prabowo Subianto, with full state honours, including a military parade, cavalry troops, and primary school students waving the national flags of both nations.
As the Prime Minister inspected the Guard, accompanied by President Subianto, the beating of ceremonial drums, accompanied by a 19-gun salute, and the playing of the national anthems of both nations echoed across the palace forecourt.
The grandeur of the occasion marked the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Fiji and Indonesia.
PM Rabuka expressed his deep appreciation for the honour extended, describing it as “a heartfelt tribute not only to the friendship between our two nations, but also to the spirit of regional solidarity that binds us.”
This ceremonial Guard of Honour is usually accorded to Prime Ministers who visit Indonesia, reflecting the country’s deep respect and high admiration for visiting heads of government.
