Prime Minister Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka arrived in Indonesia last night for an official visit aimed at deepening ties between the two nations.
Upon arrival, the Prime Minister received a quarter guard of honour, reflecting the warmth and deep respect demonstrated by the government and people of Indonesia to the government and the people of Fiji.
Further, the PM was traditionally welcomed by members of the Fijian community in Indonesia who gathered to show their support to Hon. Rabuka.
In his address, the head of the Coalition Government thanked the Fijian community for being exemplary ambassadors of Fiji abroad.
“I very much appreciate the ceremonies of welcome and it is a clear indication of loyalty to your country and its traditions and customs,” PM Rabuka told those in attendance.
“It is always very difficult to maintain our culture when we go to such great countries like Indonesia, but for you to perform this ceremony of welcome, I feel it’s a great honor for me and Fiji.”
PM Rabuka acknowledged their contributions in fostering strong people-to-people connections and encouraged them to continue promoting Fiji’s values of peace, friendship, and unity.
He also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the host country and its people for the warm hospitality accorded to him and his delegation upon arrival.
“Please also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the people of Indonesia for their generous hospitality and for making you feel at home here,” he added.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to meet with the President of Indonesia His Excellency, Prabowo Subianto today to discuss key areas of cooperation, including trade, education, climate resilience, and regional security.
