Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka joined members of the diplomatic corps and distinguished guests last night aboard the ROKS Hansando Ship to celebrate the national day of the Republic of Korea.
The event, hosted by the Korean Embassy in Fiji, further reaffirmed the longstanding diplomatic relations and enduring friendship between the two nations.
Docked at the Suva Wharf, the Korean helicopter training ship, with its 290-member crew, is in the country as part of its 110-day visit to eight countries and 10 ports.
This is the ship’s eighth visit to Fiji, under our defense and maritime cooperation.
As part of the celebration, the deck was transformed into a vibrant venue adorned with Korean flags, traditional decorations, and warm lights.
In hosting the guests, Korean Ambassador to Fiji His Excellency Mr Jin-Hyung Kim acknowledged Fiji and Korea’s diplomatic relations which was established in 1971.
He noted that the relationship between the two nations has further strengthened in the areas of economics and trade, culture, tourism, defense and security, amongst other important sectors.
The Korean Ambassador conveyed his gratitude to those in attendance for joining them in celebrating their national day away from home.
As the event drew to a close, PM Rabuka joined Ambassador Jin-Hyung and other dignitaries for a ceremonial toast in honor of the Korea National Day.
The evening featured an array of Korean food and drinks, and traditional Korean performances, showcasing Korea’s history and achievements.
