
Prime Minister Rabuka receives courtesy call from the new High Commissioner of India to Fiji

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka met with United Nations Resident Coordinator Mr. Dirk Wagener yesterday to discuss the UN’s ongoing support for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and its mandates.
Mr Wagener was accompanied by the Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection and TRC Steering Committee Chair Hon. Sashi Kiran and Senior Peace Development Advisor, Mr Agus Wandi.
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the crucial role of the UN in providing technical expertise and best practices in ensuring that the TRC process is inclusive, credible, and effective for all Fijians.
Discussions also highlighted opportunities for collaboration through the UN Peacebuilding Fund, which supports national and regional peacebuilding efforts.
At the outset, PM Rabuka acknowledged the UN’s support to Fiji and the wider Pacific region over the years in key areas such as climate action and disaster resilience, economic development, human rights and social protection, peace and security, health, and education, to mention just a few.
Mr Wagener thanked the Prime Minister for the opportunity to meet and discuss the UN’s ongoing support for Fiji, and also other areas of further cooperation.
He reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to supporting Fiji’s national priorities, among other important initiatives.
