Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka yesterday visited the Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) Ltd in Ningde City, Fujian Province. CATL is a global leader in the development and production of lithium-ion batteries, particularly for electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage systems.
Established in 2011, CATL Ltd is well known for its new innovative technologies, committed to providing premier solutions and services for new energy applications worldwide. One of every three electric vehicles is powered by a battery produced in a CATL factory.
The Prime Minister and the Fiji delegation were given a tour of the company headquarters followed by a briefing on its operations.
The company is one of the largest lithium battery manufacturers in the world and supplies batteries to major automakers such as Tesla, BMW, Volkswagen, and many others.
Prime Minister Rabuka was informed that the company’s role in the global transition toward electric powered vehicles and vessels has made it a key player in the clean energy industry.
In witnessing the company’s operations and its commitment to clean energy and sustainable development, the Prime Minister praised the company for its commitment to sustainability and innovation, pushing forward the agenda of achieving carbon neutrality in its core operations by 2025 and across their battery value chain by 2035.
Fiji is committed to its existing Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets and achieving net zero by 2050 and 100% renewable energy by 2030.
