Fiji and Tonga reaffirm commitment to strengthen relations

Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka yesterday welcomed the Non-Resident Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Fiji, His Excellency Mr Ali Saad Mohamed Habab Al-Hajri in a meeting that reaffirmed the growing strategic partnership between the two nations.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Rabuka acknowledged the leadership of His Highness Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, for his continued support in fostering cooperation and mutual understanding between Fiji and the State of Qatar.
Fiji and Qatar established diplomatic relations in 2010, with more potential areas for collaboration across various sectors.
On the international front, Prime Minister Rabuka reaffirmed Fiji’s longstanding commitment to peacekeeping efforts in the Middle East, citing Fiji’s active participation in missions such as the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO), and the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF).
Further, the PM praised Qatar’s role in championing the interests of developing nations in the multilateral arena.
Prime Minister Rabuka expressed his gratitude and reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to further deepening ties with the State of Qatar.
In response, the Non-Resident Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Fiji thanked the Prime Minister for the warm hospitality extended to him upon his arrival and expressed his enthusiasm to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
