Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka today welcomed the new non-resident Ambassador of Chile to Fiji Her Excellency Manahi Pakarati, during a courtesy visit to the Office of the Prime Minister in Suva.
The Prime Minister congratulated Ambassador Pakarati and wished her well as she assumes her new diplomatic role. He reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation with Chile.
The meeting highlighted potential avenues for collaboration in trade and economy, tourism, air connectivity, climate change and oceans.
Ambassador Pakarati thanked Prime Minister Rabuka for the opportunity to discuss the proposed plans aimed at enhancing the cooperation ahead.
She said the visit this week to Fiji has enabled her to engage in discussions with various ministries to identify the potential areas of cooperation which will be pursued progressively. The Embassy of the Republic of Chile in New Zealand will work closely with Ministry of Foreign Affairs Fiji to advance Fiji-Chile relations, further.
She remains confident that the friendship and cooperation between the two nations will elevate to new levels.
During her first official visit to Fiji this week, Ambassador Pakarati presented her credentials to the President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, at the State House. She also had the opportunity to meet the senior government officials and visit the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat.
Ambassador Manahi Pakarati has over 28 years of experience as a diplomat and is the only diplomat of Polynesian Rapanui ancestry in the Chilean Foreign Service.
