Fiji and Cook Islands aim to enhance engagements at bilateral and regional level

Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka met with the non-resident Ambassador of Lithuania to Fiji His Excellency Mr Darius Degutis in his office yesterday.
The meeting focused on the way forward to strengthening the bilateral relations and multilateral cooperation between the two nations.
It further highlighted prospects for development cooperation in strategic priorities such as climate change, peacekeeping, and human rights.
Prime Minister Rabuka congratulated Ambassador Degutis and wished him well in his new diplomatic role.
He reaffirmed the Fiji Government’s commitment to further advancing the relations on issues of mutual interest and benefit to both the nations.
Further, PM Rabuka remained confident that the cooperation between the two nations will elevate further through continued dialogue particularly, through platforms such as the Fiji and the European Union (EU) political dialogue and in multilateral forums.
The meeting reaffirmed Lithuania’s support for regional collaboration through the Oceans of Peace Concept that establishes the Pacific Way to building regional peace, security, and prosperity in the Pacific and wider global community.
Ambassador Degutis, in his response, thanked Prime Minister Rabuka for the opportunity to discuss opportunities for stronger collaboration.
He also expressed his appreciation to the Government of Fiji for the kind hospitality extended to him upon his arrival this week to present his credentials to the President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, at the State House.
Fiji and Lithuania established diplomatic relations in 2014.
