I have been closely following the unfolding situation in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Kingdom of Thailand in the wake of the devastating earthquake which impacted the South-East Asia region on 28 March 2025.
This unfortunate event has undoubtedly brought immense sorrow to many.
On behalf of the people and the Government of Fiji, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost loved ones, and our prayers and thoughts are for a swift recovery to those who have been injured.
Fiji’s Diplomatic Mission’s in the region have confirmed the safety of all Fijians in both Myanmar and Thailand, and are closely monitoring the situation in coordination with the relevant authorities.
I urge all Fijians in the affected areas to remain alert and comply with local safety measures.
Fiji stands in solidarity with the people of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Kingdom of Thailand during this difficult time, and we pray for eternal peace and rest for those who lost their lives in this tragedy.
