I have been closely following the unfolding situation in Vanuatu, where our brothers and sisters continue to face the devastating impacts of two powerful earthquakes.
I am deeply saddened by the news of yet another 6.1 magnitude earthquake that struck the island nation this morning.
On behalf of the people and the Government of Fiji, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost loved ones, and our prayers and thoughts for a swift recovery to those who have been injured.
Today, as we stand in solidarity with Vanuatu, Fiji has activated a task force comprising my office, the NDMO, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, RFMF and other relevant authorities.
I reiterate Fiji’s support for Vanuatu and we stand ready to offer our assistance in whatever way we can.
