The students of the Namosi Secondary School recently had the opportunity to visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and learn about the importance of the Ministry’s role in advancing Fiji’s interests abroad. This visit was part of the school’s educational excursion for the Year 12 and Year 13 students to know more about the Ministry’s services.
Through a presentation made to the students, they were informed on the Ministry’s offshore programs coordinated by Fiji’s Missions abroad, in accordance with the Ministry’s vision on building “A Stronger, Safer and Prosperous Fiji through Excellence in Foreign Service.”
Information was also provided to the students and teachers, on the overview on the Ministry’s strategic priorities, foreign policy strategies and importance of diplomacy in promoting Fiji’s global leadership and its status as the regional hub within the Pacific region.
The students also had the opportunity to seek information through the question and answer session to know more about the Ministry’s services and ways they can pursue their career into areas of diplomacy.
Acting Principal of Namosi Secondary School, Ms Milika Boletawa thanked the Ministry for Foreign Affairs for a well delivered presentation that provided a comprehensive overview of the Ministry’s roles and responsibilities. She also emphasised that the information provided has been beneficial to the students who take geography and history.
It has enhanced their knowledge and appreciation on the importance of diplomacy in strengthening Fiji’s international relations and in widely addressing global issues of interests like climate change mitigation, peacekeeping and human rights.
Ms Boletawa that such visits are a great educational experience for the students and it motivates them to plan well for their career.
